Clarence E. Hankton

Clarence E. Hankton is a dedicated community leader, mentor, and workforce professional committed to advancing youth development and strengthening neighborhoods across Chicago. He currently serves as a Machine Operator at Sipi Metals, where he has worked for eight years and plays a key role in delivering safety training for new employees.
Born on Chicago’s South Side in the Prairie Court Projects at 2822 South Calumet and later raised in the Cabrini-Green community on the Near North Side, Clarence grew up amid significant social and economic challenges. Exposure to violence, instability, and limited opportunities shaped his early life and contributed to decisions that led to his incarceration in 2000 for racketeering and drug conspiracy. During his 17 years in federal custody, Clarence committed himself to deep personal transformation, accountability, and rebuilding his life around purpose and service.
Since his release in 2015, Clarence has been actively involved in community-centered initiatives. He is a contributing member of Near North 3.6.5, where he applies his leadership experience and personal insight to programs focused on empowerment, education, and community revitalization. Clarence is widely recognized for his work as an Outreach Leader, engaging youth ages 12 to 24 in mentorship, workforce readiness, and personal development. He collaborates closely with parents, schools, and community stakeholders to connect young people with programs that offer structure, guidance, and long-term opportunity—helping them navigate and avoid the cycles of violence he once faced himself.
Clarence also volunteers with peacekeeping and community organizations across Chicago, supporting neighborhood safety initiatives and building trust among residents. His lived experience, integrity, and authentic leadership allow him to connect with young people and families with empathy and credibility.
Grateful for the opportunity to rebuild his life, Clarence is committed to ongoing personal growth and to uplifting the communities that shaped him. His journey reflects resilience, transformation, and an unwavering dedication to helping others realize their potential.
