Carl Nesbitt

Raised in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green public housing, Carl Nesbitt grew up confronting realities that few can imagine. A survivor of gun violence, his life story is one of pain, resilience, and perseverance. His journey reflects not only the hardships he endured, but also the strength and determination required to rise above them and continue living with purpose.

Today, Carl Nesbitt works as an Assistant Superintendent with GMA Construction Group, where he serves as a symbol of resilience and transformation. Recognized citywide and throughout the community as a poster figure for GMA Construction, he represents what is possible when opportunity, healing, and hard work intersect—demonstrating that success can extend far beyond the circumstances of one’s birth.

Carl is also the founder of Near North 365, a community-based organization dedicated to mentoring youth and expanding their vision of what is possible beyond becoming victims of gun violence. Drawing from his lived experience, he guides, encourages, and supports young people as they pursue safer, more hopeful futures.

Through community violence intervention efforts, Carl and his team work to reduce violence by providing positive outlets, mentorship, and access to resources that keep youth engaged, off the streets, and focused on growth, teamwork, and discipline.

He stands as living proof that healing, growth, and success are achievable—despite the odds faced each day.
