Nathaniel Satchell

Nathaniel Satchell grew up in Chicago Housing Authority housing at the Cabrini-Green Homes, where he was exposed to both the challenges and the strengths of life in the community. He attended Jenner School for three years before being bused in the late 1970s to Sayre Language Academy on Chicago’s far Northwest Side. Although he moved out of Cabrini-Green in 1988, he remained actively engaged in the daily life of the community. He attended Near North Magnet High School and graduated in 1989.
From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Satchell served as a case manager at Near North Health Services under the leadership of Marion Stamps, a respected community leader on Chicago’s Near North Side.
He earned an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Kingsborough Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Adolescence Education (grades 7–12) and a Master of Arts in Social Science/History from Brooklyn College. He later obtained a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Concordia University–Portland and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at DePaul University.
Mr. Satchell has dedicated his professional life to education and youth empowerment, teaching for ten years with the New York City Board of Education and eight years with Chicago Public Schools. He believes that positively impacting the lives of young people can transform entire communities, one youth at a time. By serving as a consistent resource and mentor, he strives to provide students with opportunities and perspectives beyond what they may encounter in their everyday environments.
